About

To Create Brings Inspiration

I am a Photographer with skills in Media and Website Design. I live in Ballina NSW and my business Snapz with Style incorporates these skills enabling me to provide a unique service using Photography for Media Design and Web Design. For me striving to out do myself on each new project keeps it fresh and the sense of pride for images or designs I create inspires more.

Photography to me

Today, photography has become a powerful means of communication and visual expression that envokes emotion in all sorts of ways, it is a popular way of crystallizing our memories. Most of the billions of photographs taken today are snapshots to document personal events. Photographs can also be objects of art, provide aesthetic pleasure, explore humanity, even provide us knowledge from outside our world. In one way or another most of us use photography.

“Most things in life are moments of pleasure and a lifetime of embarrassment; photography is a moment of embarrassment and a lifetime of pleasure.”

Some Recent Projects

Photography is a fantastic story-telling medium. Whether you’re telling a story with just one image or an entire portfolio. Nature shots for me are someting that have developed over time, the older I get the more I appreciate results from the effort involved in capturing those images in the great outdoors. It's very rewarding to photograph something unique from either a popular, beautiful landscape or a remote and sometimes desolate landscape.

A portrait can capture the essence of a person, sometimes in just one frame. Other times it takes a series of photos to express the character of that person. Which ever, photography has a way of showing those subtleties that can be hard to describe any other way.

Kids make great photographic subjects, they often express more emotion and are more animated than adults. Being able to capture those moments can be challenging but when it all comes together it is very satisfying for all involved.

My Workflow

How To Make Happy Clients

As long as you are consistently giving clients more than their expectations and solving issues that they may not have even considered, then you have gone a long way toward making your service stand out from others.

Idea

Try to think outside the box, come up with something a little different, with a twist or take a clients idea to the next level.

plan

Think about when and where, then double check no other more interesting or unique ideas have presented themselves.

conceptualise

Take some time to run it through your minds eye with some different variations. Think about the post processing on the computer.

Shoot

Thoroughly check all camera settings, shoot, adjust, re-frame, shoot, check.

Post-Process

Import, start to tweak image, feel some exitement, tweak some more.

Reflect

Examine, admire, walk away, come back and examine, modify and admire.

Publish

Upload, email or print, then get some feedback.

Photos make people happy. Whether you captured a great portrait, snap a shot of a special moment, or taken photos to help establish a new business, photography can spread a lot of joy.

Always Learning

Acquired Skills

Below are some of the hardware & software products I use, with all these products there is a certain amount of understanding required to use them effectively. Over the years some consumed much more time to get to the point that I've been able to say I know how to use them, others I am not sure I will ever be a complete master of.

Not unlike the Holden vs Ford rivalrey here in Australia, in photography there is Nikon vs Canon, which is better? I think they both have a lot to offer along with other brands these days also. I think photographers pick a side and normally stick with it, I fell on the Nikon side of the fence and have grown quite a collection of Nikon products, photography sure can be an expensive activity.

Founded on July 25, 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha (Japan Optical Industries Co. Ltd.), the company was renamed to Nikon Corporation, after its cameras, in 1988.

Well I have to say I do love Lightroom, glitches aside, it has become by far my main image post-processing tool. I jumped on the Lightroom train back in version 4 and it soon took over from Photoshop as part of my workflow. Now I only use Photoshop for major image tweaks and photo doctoring that is outside of Lightrooms capabilities.

Lightroom is the perfect workflow tool for cataloging, retouching, enhancing and improving my raw images.

Adobe Photoshop has become the industry standard in raster graphics editing, such that the word "photoshop" has become a verb...."to Photoshop an image"

I began to learn Photshop image editing back in the early CS versions, CS & CS2, I continued to lean and devolop Photoshop skills over various version releases up to the current Photoshop CC 2018 version. Still I continue to learn.

Trying to master Adobe Premiere Pro has probably been my most recent quest when it comes to the heavy lift suite of Adobe applications. It has probably been more a hobby challange than anything and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially when you pair up Premier Pro with a GoPro, Rampant video effects and music, hours of fun!

After Effects goes hand in hand with Premier Pro, I am still only scratching the surface with this one but as I continue to advance in Premier Pro I am sure I will also become more fluent with After Effects, I know enough to get through most tasks I attempt, it just takes me a while.

Not my favourite Adobe App, mosty I would use Photoshop even if it was more of a job for Illustrator. But there are some projects that just require those vector lines. For me it is when I need to develop large scale logos, that's where Adobe Illustrator comes to the party.

I have had my fair share of frustration with Dreamweaver over the years but I have always used it for my website building. The latest version CC 2018 still has plenty of issues but the new look and interface has grown on me. Coding websites can be little tedious right through to completely mind-numming at times if you can't get the desired effect, so I can't blame Dreamweaver for everything.

Hand in hand with HTML comes CSS and Java Script, seemingly over-whelming at first but you slowly battle through untill one day you feel a little more top of it than under it. Still it is one of those never stop learning areas, some aspects of Java Script have become very complex. I really enjoy the creative aspect of building a website, the downside is the countless hours often spent trying to get something to work that just should work. I think that satisfaction of finaly fixing the problem and seeing the final result is worth it..... I think.
